Sweden

I did it. Upon arriving in Stockholm I have completed a one year, round the world journey. With three months to go on my current plan, I’m glad to be back in a place where I have friends with nice apartments and jobs where they can buy me drinks.

Stockholm, Around town design

High-tech and well designed inside and out it’s fun to look at Stockholm, especially when you are used to simple cement or bamboo structures and open sewer of Asia. Everything seems smooth, clean and thought-about.

Visits

Vaxholm, halfway out in the Archpeligo

Stockholm is a major port in the country, and just to the east of the city is the vast Archipeligo. Twenty-thousand little rock islands and twice as many summer cottages dot this coastline. On a brief trip with some friends I still found myself mostly attracted to the smooth lines and bright colors of the houses and boats.

Stockholm, Dinner with Jan's Family

For a dose of alternative reality my friend Skinny Dave and myself accepted a gracious invitation by Jan Sundberg of dinner at his house south of Stockholm. What a great feeling to be at a home, with furniture, family, and food. Given my career choices and round-the-world traveling, this is the reality I was most expected to fulfill and the one I’m now most likely to never have. Thanks Jan for the insight to the other path.

And for fun? It’s true, I can hypnotize a rabbit.

Neglinge, Sailing

Why does sailing still make me nervous? And afternoon sailing with Nina and Dave. Also my first day of not smoking. Timing?

Stockholm, night out in Stureplan

Finding myself without primitive cultures to explore here in Sweden, I took the liberty of following some clubgoers to a few spots around the central core of the city.
